Hello everyone,
I love these oil discussions. I really do. Oil is important.
I can only say I was trained at a young age to change the oil
regularly, - very regularly.
On our farm my uncle always said on a rainy day and we were inside,
start changing oil in the equipment.
We had an old 1956 Ford truck which was used hard but always had fresh oil.
We pulled that engine apart not so long ago and inside it was
pristine, no crud or rust or buildup.
Now this was with using oil starting with the technology 50 years ago!
I think the message is GET THE CONTAMINANTS OUT OF THE ENGINE which
means change the oil
regularly.
No matter how new and tight an engine is, - junk gets in there, -
acids and moisture.
I think you could use Pep Boys house brand oil as long as you change it often.
I use Chevron RPM 15-40 in all my Mercedes, all 126 cars, gas and
diesel. It's a diesel spec which is recommended by my oil
dealer as being even better overall than any synthetic.
Everything is changed at 3,000 miles or 6 months, - whichever comes first.
