Lastly, IMHO, 4000 miles on conventional oil is too long. If I'm doing strictly highway I'll change every 3000, serve duty/city driving I'll change b/w 2 and 2500. As such the internals of my engines stay near spotless. I will only consider extended drain intervals when running Mobil 1/Amsoil/Redline oil.

You know, on that change interval stuff, I too like 3k miles, but having said that those Germans have been doing seriously long intervals (7500 miles in the old days before synthetic) and it doesn't seem to give them problems. Of course, routinely running at top speed gets their oil nice and hot and burns off a lot of contaminents. At least that's what I tell myself to console myself about the oil in my engine having 4500 miles on it (mostly highway) right now.

Oh, and that high mileage oil is a waste of money unless you burn oil/have leaks. I was actually able to slow down a rear main seal leak by switching to it, but otherwise it's just wasted cash (and according to Pat Goss, who I don't always agree with, can make formerly fine seals dependant on the extra seal swellants).
