Subject: 1985 EURO AMG
Hello Gang,
Happy to join and address all you fine SEC owners. Signed on maybe a year
ago, but haven't posted till now.
I've been sitting back and enjoying the knowledge gracing my monitor screen.
I've patiently waited for a coupe
to become available in my area to entice me enough to give the car a test
drive and possible purchase, tomorrow.
I would like ask any of you knowledgeable folks for your honest opinions and
vin number decoding.
The car in question is a 1985 AMG, European version, I'm told. I was
given little info pertaining to the car.
My first question to the owner was; is it a 500 or 560?, they couldn't
answer that. Didn't 560 first become available in 1985?
I have read the very informative "Byers Guide to the W126 SEC" found at this
site some time ago, and the Vin decoding sheet.
I hope the owner can provide me "data card", for the vehicle.
Some questions I have for you gentlemen are:
1 - What codes should I find/look for that will indicate to me that this is
a genuine AMG?
2 - What options or equipment would constitute a genuine AMG
3 - Is this car desirable or collectable, low production etc. AS compared to
a 560 ?
4 - What to look for pertaining to how this gray market car conversion was
handled - quality whys ?
5 - Does the 500 euro motor perform substantially better or comparably to
the 560? And/or is it de-tuned
to comply with gray market compliance. Is emission compliance a
frequent problem?
6 - Does anyone have access to run a CARFAX report for me? That would be
greatly appreciated !
I will get the VIN number tomorrow and post it here.
7 - Any additional bits of information or opinions would be much appreciated
!!!
If anyone whishes, I can be e-mail at cjohnson at i2s.com, Should I include a
phone number?
Thanks everyone, I'll post my results,
Clax
