[W126 Coupe] Help on Exhaust modification

My car has an exact copy of the Nathan Goodlet/Jim Nowak exhaust setup, i.e. a balance pipe just below the headers then 2.25 inch straight through to a Flowmaster 70 series muffler twin in/out, even with a supercharger this system lets the car breath very easily, the only downsides being that on full chat the noise level is utterly ludicrous, and I don`t know how long the muffler will last as it must be made from cheap steel ( less than U.S. $100.00). Anyone thinking of going down this route, make sure the garage doing the welding salvages and re-uses the two kinked end pipes from the original M-B muffler, otherwise you will end up with the exhaust exiting the car six inches to the right of the exhaust cutout on the bumper ( just like mine ).
All the best,

As the first step looking for more power I plan to modify the standard exhaust system for racing.
I don't care about noise levels so I thought of simply cutting out the 2 front transversely mounted silencers on my 500SEC and just leave only the rear silencer. Has anyone got some experience on this?
Remember we already don't have all the emission control crapola on our cars.
If I don't plan to change the exhaust manifolds is there any point in going bigger diameter pipes?
