This is my 37 cents on the discussion:

I have owned Porsche (356 B; Carrera Cabrio), MBenz (300D; 300DTurbo; 300TD Wagon; 260 E; 560 SL; 560 SEC), BMW (2002, Bavaria), Jaguar (XJ6C, XJ6), Lexus (LS 400), Infiniti (2003 M45) and Toyota (Landcruiser). My assessment...while the Japanese cars are appropriately termed "gas 'n go", other than the Landcruiser they have no soul. You can plump your bottom into any Mercedes up to and including the 500E and sense a very direct connection to every previous Mercedes model. After the 500E, I'm not so sure.

The Lexus is quiet, smooth, reliable, and dull. The Infiniti is fast, has precise steering, firm road feel and...no soul. The SL and the SEC are my escape from the mundane. I'm on the downside of 60 and, while I remember seeing 155mph on the saddle of a Kawasaki Z-1, I'm now perfectly happy that, for me, the issue is not speed but heart.

I love the idea of thrashing the crap out of a Honda and relishing the time in the SEC or the SL. I also like the idea of showing motorcycle exhaust pipe "O's" to the ricer drivers, even my two elderly BMW's will still do that...until the ricer NOS systems overtake the roll-on torque of the boxer twins.

Speed is fine, soul is where we live. The Lexus is for sale, anyone interested.
