[W126 Coupe] interesting problem

Hi Michael;
 
Were this my car, before replacing the fuel pump relay I would pop off the cover and look for any obvious causes for the intermittent problem, such as a cracked solder joint on the circuit board.  This appears to be a very common problem with the fuel pump relay.
 
Your problem certainly could be that relay, but you might not need a new one at all.
