I've got it figured out - at least part of it...
The significant number is the 'B36-0501' which is also the HD series or B6 in the catalogue.
There is also a B8 (sports version) available, the B36-1535 which I assume is even harder than the HD.
There is also a listing for rear shocks for the non-hydraulic W126 models. I am thinking that the hydraulic models have the same mounts as the non-hydraulic models and so the shocks are interchangeable. Mine was converted before I bought the car and so has had the pump and pipes removed and the rear shocks changed to Monroe shocks. But they probably don't match the front shocks - it would be nice to have a matching set :)
Anyone know any more on this?
Robert
Hi gang,
I've been reading through the archive and find that Bilstein HDs look like they might be the right shocks for my car. On the Bilstein site, however, they only list two shocks for the 560SEC (1987 220kw):
000412, Bilstein - B4 Gas, B36-1183 which I take it is the standard unit and
002180, Bilstein - B4 Gas, B36-0501 which I assume is the harder shock.
Is the 2180 the same as the Bilstein HD mentioned in earlier threads? Which is the significant number one uses for ordering? Note that I am writing from Australia where Mercedes are in the minority, 560SECs reasonably rare (I've only ever seen one other 560 coupe).
Thanks,
Robert
