[W126 Coupe] How wide tires are you running?

Well, he told me AMG told him none of them will work, but he was
specifically inquiring about the 17x8.5. On the ET he didn't know it, he
told me AMG doesn't do ET's like other people do, so he uses their list
of approved Mercedes' for each wheel, so he calls them to verify
whenever there is a question.
I think you're right on the 129's.
For now I'm just waiting for my brother to finish his rotations and I'll
ask him if he thinks I should go with the Ronals or Monoblocs. I'm
thinking I'll end up getting Bruce's penta's (which would make it period
correct - or at least similar to period correct - plus would be a little
more comfortable with the 50 profile).
Unless the 3-piece AMGs are substantially lighter (maybe, cause they're
three piece, but they're also 17"), anybody know weight specs on these?
Richard

What width and what ET? TR never listed the C36 wheels for a 126 but
they Do work...I personally have two SEC's running then and I know of 3
others w/ the same setup.
The 5 spoke 129 wheel doesn't look as good IMHO..spoke are too thin.

Is there any reason (I would have said any good reason, but I'm
guessing it's not a good reason) that when a distributor who has Aero
II's in stock called AMG they told him the Aero II will not work on a
W126? According to AMG though the 5-spoke 129 will fit...true?
Thanks,
Richard

I called them, they don't have the Aero II's any more
Jonathan. I'm
going to call around a few other places, I really want
to get a weight
spec on the Aero II.
Also, they say for those BBS's they include 12mm
Mercedes spacer and no
hubcentric ring...should I be worried?
Thanks,
Richard

Yup...I run 5mm spacers in the rear..gets the ET of 30
down to 25..not
so much for rubbing but looks.. the rears sit a little
further in then
I like w/o them.
You can buy the Aero II's from the tire rack right now..
But I would do
it sooner rather then later as they will be
discontinuing that model..
They car they were originally designed for was a 95 C36.
Not exactly sure what factory is...if I had to guess I'd
say even lower
then 2K...

I remember you said you ran spacers on the
back...would 245's
rub without them, or is it just a looks thing (I read
one instance of
245's rubbing on an SE, but it didn't mention offset)?
Also, you run 17"
Aero II's right? Do you know what they weigh? I might be
able to find a
set of those new still somewhere, and I think they look
better enough
than the BBS RG-R's I'm considering (I'm starting to
think that they
might look silly on 11" rotors) that if they are within
2lbs (the BBS
are 18.5lbs) I might go with them.
Hmmmm....high stall torque convertor...what's
factory, 2000rpm?
But it still wouldn't be a lockup TC, so I guess I
probably shouldn't go
higher than that for the sake of highway efficiency/heat
reduction.
Thanks,
Richard

I run 245/45 17. Works great for me...80 plus
in HEAVY Florida
rain w/o issue:):) New tyres do a superb job of
ferrying water away
from your contact patch these days.
Not sure what we'll have on torque below 2K,
this is going to be
a custom grind so we'll do our best in the computer
modeling but only
time will tell.
We're not tweaking the TC unless that's
something you would like
done for a higher stall.
The change in gearing will be so slight I'd be
surprised if it
were @ all noticeable.
