Robert,

With all of your input, I feel like I could do this job if I was not disabled from an accident one month ago. I cannot believe how easy you have made this job seem. These are things that you just cannot go out and ask anyone.... even some mechanics. When I first got the car and needed to have things done, I thought any mechanic would be able to do it, and a lot of them said "NO" right off the bat. I soon realized that it was either Mercedes Benz or YOU guys and so far, the MBCoupes list has saved me so much money and I know it will continue to as well. Next up, my intermittent cruise control module or whatever might be causing that to happen.

  Sincerely,
  John

The accumulators are two small egg shaped bulbs. The have a rubber bladder inside, of which one side is filled with air (hence air suspension) the other side with hydraulic fluid. The rear rests on these bladders and relies on them to absorb shock. Check under your hood, open the hydraulic fluid canister, its plastic, round and on the drivers side, and with the engine running make sure that fluid is being pumped, (you will see by a small amout of fluid continually pouring into the canister).

What appear to be shocks in the rear, arn't. The are hydraulic rams that raise or lower the rear end. These are expensive and rarely break, and you can see if these are working by unscrewing and moving the small lever that is attached to the leveling valve in the rear. Move the lever and you will see rams(shocks) expand or close, thus raising of lowering the rear end.
