Markus,
I have 200,000 miles now, and it was all done with Mercedes, but the ride was harsh and bouncy over bumps. The fronts were not smooth either and I know they need to be replaced. So you think I should start with the accumulators first?

John,
Most likely culprit would be the rear accumulators. There are shocks in the rear too, but the accumulators do most of the work. I just replaced mine recently - they have a bladder inside which once they rupture, make the car ride real harsh. When you say it wasn't working - how not? Did anything get removed or is it all still there? There is a reservoir and pump and lines also, but those usually don't go bad like the accumulators do. How many miles on the car?

Subject: [W126 Coupe] Re: Front and Rear Shock Replacement
Hi Guys,
I am about to replace my shocks front and rear on my '88 SEC and I wanted to know more about the workings of the rear suspension. When I bought this car, the hydropneumatic shocks were not working, and I want to know what else should be replaced while I am having this work done? Are there any valves involved in the system that would keep my shocks from leveling, or do the shocks just go bad or is there a pump, or valve that goes bad that causes the shocks to not level? I just want to make sure I get all of the parts needed at one time to make it work.
