Barry,
You are correct, this is a very common problem on the SEC. I've had to deal
with it on my car.
First thing to warn you about is the rear window. This part is only
available OEM and replacing it (glass + gasket + installation) will set you
back at least $1,200 in the US. Your local price may vary, but will be
expensive.
Fixing the the window frame rust will require the removal of the rear window
so retain the serivces of the best glass guy you can find and make sure he
is aware of the cost of the glass. He will most probably offer no guarantees
that he can remove and reinstall the rear window without damaging it so make
sure he is competent.
I believe there is a replacement part available from MB for the rear window
frame, but I'm afraid I don't have the part #. In any case, a competent body
shop can remove the rusty panel and weld in a new piece.
I paid a local body shop ~$1,400 (USD) to have the rear window removed and
reinstalled, the rusty panel replaced and repainted.
Hope this helps.
