[W126 Coupe] 90 560SEC Value

In Australia a 1990 560SEL sells for about $8,000-$10,000 and a 1990 560sec would get anywhere from $25,000 to $60,000 depending on condition.

KEEP THE SEC !

Hey now, not so fast! Super low miles sedans are currently worth about 80% of super low mile coupes. That's not too bad. I am a sedan guy myself..nothing like a fast luxurious four door.

But I agree with you that average mile cars, or projecting out 5-10 years, the SECs will be worth a lot more than the SELs.

The last >$20K stock SEC I sold was a silver/black 1987 with 37K miles for $21.5K. And that car was so spectacular, so new looking/feeling in every way that I believe even a mint 50K mile car would not approach it. I probably could have gotten even more for it had people been able to see it before having to buy it (sold via Internet).

Anything else over $20K in last year has had AMG gear on it.

I think you are accurate in your pricing, I said $15K-$20K, but $20K would take a lot of patience and cost a lot in marketing. On ebay, with a decent ad, it'll pull $12K-$13K.

Why would you trade an SEC for an SEL?

Right now the price difference between the two models is not all that great, but in another 5-10 years the difference will be a multiple.

Nobody cares about old sedans. Coupes and convertibles are what the classic car market is all about.

Enough ranting.

The best time to sell a nice car is in the spring and early summer. That way the buyer will have all summer to enjoy the car before parking it for the winter.

I've rarely seen even mint SECs approach $20K. Not knowing your car I'd say $12k is reasonable and $15k achievable.

Anything north of $20k needs a lot of AMG options and equipment.
