Ivan,
Most likely that one of your two amps is out, probably the one
controlling the left side speakers. Common problem. You can get
refurbished amps and/or head units from the following outlets:
Becker of North America, in New Jersey: www.beckerautosound.com --
probably the most reasonable way to go. They will take your old units
as cores
Walter Odemer Co, Burbank CA: http://www.geocities.com/
odemer at sbcglobal.net/ excellent service, fast too.
Many people go aftermarket, which is an excellent choice if you want
up to date technology. Somehow, in my thinking, I have issues with
current technology "video game screen" head units in a classic 126
coupe, but that's just me.
The stock 89-91 SEC systems when working well, actually are very very
powerful and don't sound half bad, if your tastes don't require "boom
boom" subwoofer style bass as found in gangsta rap and all that.
The amps are located behind each rear seatback -- remove the vertical
portions of the seatbacks and the amps are easily removable. They are
little squarish metal boxes.
BTW if you do keep your Becker/factory system, my best advice is to
get EVERYTHING refurbished at the same time -- remove your antenna
and have Odemer refirb it, have your head unit done and have your
amps done. Money well spent.
Good luck.
Cheers,
Gerry
