It sounds like your tape-head is either dirty or is malfunctioning.

If cleaning the head does not help, you are probably due for an audio
upgrade.

That can be as sophisticated and complex as you wish. The easiest solution
is to buy a new head-unit with a built in amplifier, four new speakers and
run new cables to the rear deck and dash locations.

You need to replace the speakers because the Becker OEM are 2 Ohm (and they
are crap....) and under no circumstances should you try to incorporate a new
head-unit with existing wiring and components (crap and more crap).
