[W126 Coupe] Tire pressures

Axel:

How did you arrive at the 40psi pressure as being okay for your ride?  
What does the pressure go to after a highway run for example?  I am 
assuming the door stamp is of no value and that the maximum pressure on 
the sidewall should be observed but, how did you get the 40# and know 
it's the right value for the SEC?
