I think your Mercedes might be ill.  (I'm assuming your car is a 560SEC, right?)  
 
I must admit there are lots of quite quick cheap and nasty little crappy stock boxes that go like stink up to a point.   Part of it depends what you want to be seen driving during daylight hours.
 
If your buddy is getting really snotty about it, see if he can keep up with you from 120KPH through 200KPH.  That should shut him up.  (Likely shut him up permanently if he is stupid enough to try!)
