guys thank you for you input so far. The problem is, this leak happened years ago. Since then I have removed the transmission and cleaned it up nice.. so I don't know exactly what to look for at this point. I remember reading in the archives about similar incidents with other members.. something about a seal or gasket near the top, or up higher, on the transmission.. does this ring a bell to anyone?
Is it kinda back a bit, around the middle of the car (past where the torque convertor is)? If it made a big leak while the car was stopped, I'm thinking it's something as simple as either the drainplug on the pan or the pan gasket.

Habib:
You need to get under there and see where the leak originates. If the
transmission was working fine up until the leak then I would expect it's
repairable without a lot of fuss. Pan gaskets, valve body seals to
modulator, shift linkage etc are all accessible with a bit of work and
without having to remove the transmission. If you can identify which
side of the valve body is soaked that would help. Take a look at the
pinion seal at the rear where the flex disk attaches as well (unlikely
cause of a massive leak). Take a rag and flashlight and have a look.

Habib:
Also check the two transmission cooler lines that run from the
transmission along the side of the lower block on the engine and connect
to the radiator. These lines are metal and one or both may transition
to a spring clad rubber hose up by the base of the radiator. One may
have let go. I've replaced these as they start to leak at 130-140k or
so on B's.
Need more coffee,
