Hi Bellamy,

You could be in luck with a simple Voltage Regulator change. 2 screws off the back of the alternator. The brushes wear down, voltage drops, alternator operation becomes erratic, car acts 'screwy'.

"The lights (headlights 100w) appear to draw such significant power suddenly that it is enough to put the challanged altermator over it's limited capabilities.

I have not tested yet, but I suspect that the alternator quites completely from time to time after it gets hot, and there is no battery to help it over these little seizures.  A test"
