Hi Jonathan,

 That seems very unfair that the US models didn't have knock sensors fitted, but thanks for correcting me on that. 
Luckily my 560 is a Euro and most definitely has knock sensors. I can run on just about any octane fuel available and have in the past run on 2 star over here in the UK without any pinging or knocking whatsoever (only because there wasn't anything else available at the time). 

So Jack, if you are reading this, unless your car is a late Euro, I will have to withdraw my comments on this subject.

  Only Late model Euro's came w/ a knock sensor...No US car to my knowledge ever came equipped as such.
