[W126 Coupe] Starting, electrical problem

Hi Waldemar,

I forgot to mention when I sent you the diagram that as you will see that if the switch contact is bad in the "P" position, that the same connection through to the starter (connection 50) can be made through a different contact of the switch through the Neutral position. Before you start getting to the switch physically, it might be worth testing starting the car with the shifter in the Neutral position a several times first. If it works every time, that should confirm that the contact of the switch that is made in the "P" position is the cause. Of course if the poor connection is at the common end of these positions (connection 50 through to starter connection D) then you would get the same results in both "N" and "P".

Good luck,

Cheers,
Vance.

Hello Everyone, Please help with a following problem: Intermitant inability to start my '89 560SEC. When I turn the key to "start" position, the lights, radio etc go on, but the starter does not respond. I return they key to "off" position, move the gearshift lever out of "P"several times than park it back at "P", turn the ignition key to "start" and the starter responds. It happened once 6 month ago, now four times in one week. I own genuine 126 Mercedes Benz manuals set, which I bought with my '85 380SEC (Given to charity in '01). I cann't find any information on electrical switches (If any) that are connected to the gearshift lever, or any diagrams that can help me find a solution to this problem. Please help.
    Thank you,
    Waldemar
