Hi Bellamy:

Yes, I think we are talking about the same thing.  I just stripped a 90 
300SE chassis for parts last weekend and traced that obscure resistor 
under the brake booster area to the aux fans on this 300SE.  It's part # 
0001583245. 

It's on my SEC as well.  I've just taken a closer look at the one in the 
83 SEC.  It's part # 1582545 which is a Beru mfg. Radiator Fan 
Controller/Resistor for the auxiliary fan.

The difference seems to be in the bracket color and perhaps the 
resistance value, don't know for sure.
