I am sure we all know the difference between a porcupine and a BMW right? On the BMW the pricks are on the inside...:)

Thanks both for the entertainment and the info. I must admit I was expecting some fun in your reply message, but not that much!.....:)))))))) You must try show biz (if you already aren't in it...) Vedat   ----- Original Message ----- From: Hein To: Vedat Iplikci ; Mercedes Coupes Mailing Lists Sent: Wednesday, March 15, 2006 1:22 PM Subject: Re: [W126 Coupe] Heater Blower Motor
  Vedat, The porcupine is that spiky metal thingy in the corner of the passenger side footwell that you're afraid to touch at first glance.     At first I thought that it was a new SEC secret weapon. If someone is in the passenger seat continuously 'back-seat' driving you push this hidden red button that lights the little orange light with the explosion sign on it inside the instrument cluster. It then shoots one spike out of the porcupine into the driver-torturer's right calf.     If this person in the passenger seat then gets into a rage over your nice SEC and starts kicking the side panel in anger, the little orange light with the explosion sign on it will turn bright red with little white specks at the outer edges and release its full compliment of spikes from the porcupine into this persons calf.     There is however a twist to the porcupine as there is a secret spike hidden in the passenger seat itself. It is only released when a passenger curses on or makes derogatory remarks about your loved SEC. This is sensed through the sensitive sensors in the porcupine which will then release this secret spike while at the same time sending a signal to the passenger side seatbelt retractor to pull back at the force of 111lbs, which is equal to 100 porcupine power.     Oh, the other name for the porcupine is the blower motor control relay.     Hein ----- Original Message ----- From: Vedat Iplikci To: Mercedes Coupes Mailing Lists Sent: Wednesday, March 15, 2006 6:23 AM Subject: Re: [W126 Coupe] Heater Blower Motor
    Hi Bellamy,         Opposite to your problem, my blower motor refuses to stop running when the climate system is off, but it may give a clue about yours. Mine actually runs perfectly normal in any other running positions, but just goes to lowest speed when the OFF button is pushed, but never stops. My mechanic's diagnosis was that the resistor was bad, but both because I wasn't convinced and it is too expensive a part, I just chose to live with it for now.         I have no idea why Hein is referring to is his pet (:p) about your blower motor, so this is my 2 cents...         Vedat Iplikci 1987 560 SEC Euro          ----- Original Message ----- From: Hein To: Mercedes Coupes Mailing Lists Sent: Wednesday, March 15, 2006 2:51 AM Subject: Re: [W126 Coupe] Heater Blower Motor
      Bellamy,      Don't know why, but I had the same problem a       few years back. I ended up changing the porcupine and the motor started       working again.             While doing this I did fool around with all       the wires in the passenger footwell, so it may have been a bad connection       somewhere.             I can't remember what I read and where, but I       replaced the porcupine because of some recommendation that I picked up       somewhere. It worked. Coincidence? All;
I have another electrical problem looking for an answer.
The blower stopped running, to the best of my knowledge while I was driving.  There is no power at the motor now.  The climate control system has had no problems up until that point.
The motor never made any rude noises, ran silently and smoothly
The fuse is OK
The fan (motor) runs fine (put 12v to the motor),
The blower control unit - fan speed controller is OK (switched with a known good unit)
Does anybody have experience with the push button controls failing or the climate control unit itself?  What other components have control over the motor power supply?  Appreciate any ideas..........
-Bellamy
