[W126 Coupe] New Car Fixed Water Pump

I have an opportunity to buy a 1994 600SL creampuff for $15,500.  Car has
94-95K miles.  Car looks really good and has been well maintained.  

Only problem is that two good sources say do not buy the car, my independent
MB mechanic and a MB salesman who knows the cars really well.  Mechanic says
it is too heavy, drinks too much gas, is slower than the 500SL, and does not
handle as well.  

I also have the opportunity to buy a mechanically perfect 88 560SL that is
also a beautiful car and recommended by the mechanic.  Car has 79K miles and
asking Aprice is $19,000.  

Any advice would be appreciated.
