Hi Patrick,

You might replace the corresponding bulb on the other tail lamp. There must still be a difference in current draw between the two lamps, with one replacement bulb & the old. 

If the light comes on, stays on without the lights on, it's the brake lamp. I only bring that up as I'm not sure which circuit was affected.

On my SEC, I found a tiny lamp burnt out, almost a side marker that I'd initially missed when I ran into a similar scenario (to yours) last Summer.

Bulb grease might be considered as well, as a deterrent to any corrosion on the contacts or bulb base.
