Hi Robert,
Yes the manuals are online & free.
There is a problem with them though, and that is that the braingears offering still uses the problematic MB index, which gives out more 404 errors than you can believe. For example look up just about anything for a 1988 560SEC, and you'll soon see what I'm getting at. To my mind it isn't worth the bother, when an updated version is available from MBUSA for a mere $20 + $5 US shipping.

Just navigate your web browser through the 'Literature Type' drop down menu....
Use Steve Nervig's Index tool, drop the MB file on your HD & smile every time you research anything, as the addressing issues have been dealt with.

Now, if you use MS Internet Exploder as your default browser, you probably will have probs. as MS IE is huffy with PDFs. This can be easily overcome with Firefox as a default browser.
My two cents, Malcolm
Workaround: After you get sick of the MB CD or braingears 'Not Found' errors, change the direction of the slash just before the pdf in the address field in your browser, But hell, $25 to your door in the US, what's not to like? :o)
