Malcolm; The 560SEC, 1988 with 180,000 Km (108,000mi) at 80,000 ZAR (~12,300 USD) may be a bit expensive for the USA market, but you should relate that to what is available in South Africa. That's fairly low mileage and if the car has been well maintained (maintainence record books available) it may be a very good buy. However, no matter what, when you find any SEC that you are serious about buying, you should insist on getting a thorough Pre-Purchase Inspection carried out by a reputable Mercedes mechanic before making any offer. Do that whether you are buying from a dealer or a private individual, and that applies to buying from a Mercedes Benz DEALER too. Around here that would cost around $100 (or more), but that may be the best money you could spend.

And if the owner/dealer won't let you have an independent PPI done on the car? Walk. Just forget about that car!

Hi All Club members,

Thank you for allowing me to join your club.

My name is Malcolm, I live in Johannesburg South Africa. I work as a salesman and I drive a small company vehicle.

I want to purchase for my private use a big powerful safe coupe, so I have decided on a 560 SEC a 1988 to 1990 Model.

I saw a beautiful one last week a 1988 model, 180,000 Klm on the clock for R85,000, a second one I looked at was R60,000

Kilometers unknown, do you think the first car was too expensive? exchange rate approx $6.7 to the Rand.

I would appreciate your input.

Regards

Malcolm
