[W126 Coupe] Help me narrow down self leveling problem

I always thought that this was true as well, but this thread made me go and 
look up the description in the manual. It's section 32-501 on CD #1. From 
the description and the cross-section it looks like the struts ("shocks") 
have valving internally. Damping action must be some combination of fluid 
moving in the lines and fluid moving through the strut valve.

I wonder if somehow there is air in the system. I think I'd try cracking 
the banjo fitting on top of the strut to see if any air comes out.
