[W126 Coupe] What is this part?

Hi Richard:

If that part is in fact plastic or like a hard rubber, it goes over the
hood rear hinge lock to either side of the hood. In other words the
steel chassis pin engages the hood up along the hinge spring and that
part protects the edge of the hood where the two meet. It's attached
with a plastic press fit pin that clips the two halves together after
you slip it over the hood 'c' shaped metal tang. To reattach absent the
pin you might be able to use a small diameter tie-wrap or locate a
plastic pin that will fit at Ace hardware. You'll see the other one
attached on the driver's side of your hood.

Hope that makes sense.

Dick

Any idea what it could be? It's plastic, painted body color on one side, and does not appear that it could be load bearing. http://Davidson.smugmug.com/gallery/1697437/1/8345092
