Has anyone has experience with this situation?
Spot weld on body of car where door hinges are attached and driver's side door check enters body. The weld broke leaving a small hole about 1/8th inch. You can see thru hole. Metal is springy where hole is. Looks like several layers of sheet steel.
Mercedes dealer said they need to weld a new plate on body to firm. This needs to be done since you can't get in from behind due to body being sealed at that point. Cost about $649.
Other body shop suggested that it can be welded by possibly drilling out a little bigger then welding each layer together.
Another body shop told me if you weld it or drill out and put in a rivet you are in danger of causing rusting and more damage.
I was told though, if not fixed that door check will eventually pull through sheet metal.
