[W126 Coupe] Another center air vent problem

I my car (an '85) the passenger side was not getting any air to the
footwell. When I looking into this I found that the diaphragm in the
actuator was cracked plus the air door that lets heat to the footwell was
stuck shut.

The air door is covered with a soft foam sheet with a layer of smooth
plastic over the top. In my car the smooth plastic stuck to the door frame
so when I un-stuck it, it peeled off the underlying foam. Now when the door
opens it often opens with a bang. I suppose that the foam must be sticking
to the frame. Next time I'm under there I'll have to do something about
this. Perhaps I can use kevlar tape around the edge. Has anyone else had
this problem?

It looks to me like we are at the end of life for the foam and adhesives
used by Mercedes. We see this also in the headliner and in the sound
deadening pad over the engine.

Regards,

Jim Ham
