[W126 Coupe] New CL

Maybe most people feel like I do about it, in that it's nice to see  
how they reverted to some design features of older models,
I particularly see a lot of W126 inspiration in the front (shape of  
lights, strong wedge shape when seen form above, etc) - but also
feel that somehow they got it slightly "wrong" this time - it's not  
original enough. Some parts of it look too much like the CLK,
and sadly some parts of it are highly reminiscent of the current BMW  
6-Series! (the hoods shut-line line going up from the
lights.) This shut-line also looks really awkward from the side, and  
I imagine will look bad in years to come (in a 20-year old
CL). It emphasises even minor misalignment in the same way a Citroën  
C2 hatchback's does.

I would have to see it in the flesh before I can truly comment, but  
my feelings are a bit mixed... not the complete desire / awe
I felt when I saw the previous generation.

So... I think it looks amazing from some angles, but decidedly un- 
mercedes-like form others, and not in a good way, i.e. it does not
look un-mercedes-like in an 'original' way. If you took the badge off  
the front, you could easily mistake the front for a
BMW/Lexus/Hyundai/whatever...

In contrast, something like the previous generation or a W126 looks  
decidedly MB in every detail. Even the interiour, although
gorgeous, does not say "Mercedes-Benz" when I see it. I think it's  
amazing though that they managed to get the rear windows
to disappear completely, that must have been tough, considering their  
large size.

I also particularly dislike the rear end... Every Japanese and Korean  
car uses rear lights and general curvature like that... they should have
stayed "different", either current M-B triangular shape, or revert  
back to a more rectangular shape a-la W126. From the rear, that is  
what sets
a Bentley or a Rolls apart, whereas now I would not give a new CL a  
second look (looks like everything else).
