[W126 Coupe] Is this possible?

Well, I don't really have to, but I do if I want max power. Sure if I leave it at the setting the mechanic puts it at, it's fine in the summer and in the winter, but I found using my g-timer that I can make significant gains in the winter by richening it up a good bit, and by leaning it out in the summer I can GREATLY cut back on the power loss caused by the higher temp air.

Also Dan, remember, I'm running the mechanical pre-1986 injection (the only think electronic is the idle control valve), not the electronic injection CIS-E of 1986+

So I fixed the mixture (lambda was still in my winter weather setting) and the apparent vacuum leak went away. Is that possible? It just seems too easy.

If you have to make adjustments for the weather, your system is
operating open loop (no control). Find out what control element has
failed, fix that, and all will be well.
