[W126 Coupe] Coolant Leak

Mike, I had a similar problem a while back. If you are using the MBZ antifreeze, it will dry white whereever its leaking. I took my car to the dealer, they checked it, and at first had problems locating the source but then pressure tested with a COLD engine and then again with a WARM engine. I had a leaky radiator and that 1" hose you are describing, PITA to replace. I took the car back and replaced the radiator and all hoses myself. About a year or so later, I had the water pump replaced along with that PITA hose (under extended warranty). Don't know if that's the one leaking for you or not, but could be, if you are convinced its up front and its not the radiator, any of the "main" hoses or the water pump itself. I would just monitor it for a bit and see if you can live with it, if its small enough. Are you sure that the radiator hoses are tight up against the engine block - see if the hose clamps are tight. Do you see any white traces along there as signs of
leakage? How about the thermostat housing? Do you get that wonderful smell of burning antifreeze?! Good luck,Markus--- On Sun 01/29, Mike R. < mramay at att.biz > wrote:From: Mike R. I have a coolant leak that I can’t find. Theanti-freeze drips off the passengers side of the engine, up front but there isn’tanything obvious for the source. The water pump weep hole is dry and as far asI can see, even with an mirror, there isn’t any leakage from it the waterpump/motor gasket. I’ve looked at the thermostat housing as well as theupper and lower radiator hose connections, but nothing there either. I looked underthe intake manifold just a little (place on the passenger side in front of thefront intake runner), but no puddles under there either.

I tried some air pressure in the system through the overflowtank and did make it drip a little faster, but nothing apparent for a source. Idrove the car and that seems to have slowed down the leak. Went out to arestaurant last night and back, nothing on the ground under the car at therestaurant or my garage this morning. Self healing leaking? Any ideas where tolook??

There is a hose, ~1”, that starts somewhere near thewater pump and goes toward the back of the engine compartment over theair pump – what’s that for?? Nothing apparent from it but I couldn’tsee where it attached on the front of the motor.

Thanks,
Mike R.
