I need to locate this feature on my car.
Was there are limit to the installation of the windshield wiper heater in
certain production years?
My reason for asking is I suspect mine isn't functioning. Wipers ice up
real easy.
This device sounds too simple to lose function but still be hooked up.

Hi Habib:

That is in fact the wiper blade heater bladder. Prevents the blades from
icing to the windscreen while they are parked. Beware the heater is not
designed to free up the blades after a storm. You still need to clear any
ice or heavy snow accumulation OR you will be replacing the entire wiper
linkage which will snap the rubber grommets (one or more) at the pivot
points on the linkage arms. I've come across this bladder on all the MB's
where a windshield replacement was being done. It just sits there and does
not glue or bond in anyway to the glass. You may notice a bit of flaky
black foam if the windshield is not carefully removed without disturbing
the aged foam layer (shinny) where the glass meets the bladder. I've never
replaced one or the attached hoses due to a leak. Pretty amazing.

Regards,

Dick
