Dan, the idea of outfitting the air slider valve with a plumbing fitting 
is truly original and way out there.  Ian, I have the very device you 
refer to installed on the 500Euro motor I just picked up while attached 
to the 500SEL.  I'll take a photo and document the potentiometer and 
wiring harness so others can effectively adjust their idle.  It will not 
smooth out a rough idle unless it is dangerously low but, will permit 
adjusting the value very precisely with a few second delay before the 
setting change is noted on the tach.
