Aha....you are looking for a switch in the car to lock/unlock the doors, but our cars don't have those. That doesn't mean we don't have central locking though.....! If you put the key in any door, or the trunk, does everything lock or unlock? If not, then there is a problem with the system and you'll have to check the vacuum pump operation in the trunk as mentioned in earlier emails. But maybe everything is okay and you are thinking we don't have central locking because there's no switch, which isn't true! I too assumed Power Locks were standard. The Merc Dealer that did the inspection for me (before traveling to pick it up) made no mention of the locking system malfunctioning. Moreover, my later model 190E and ML 320 had power lock switches in the console - so I was beginning to question rather or not my 560 was an anomaly... My Thanks to all for your responses and suggestions. I guess I can roll up my sleeves and get started!Regards, RL Thatcher SCSM, CLS, CMD'91 560 SECElkhart, Indiana -----Original Message-----From: Axel Wulff To: 'Mercedes Coupes Mailing Lists' Sent: Sun, 19 Feb 2006 09:13:04 -0500Subject: RE: [W126 Coupe] "built w/o a power locking system..."

You car was delivered new with power door locks and, as per Iain's e-mail; the system locks the fuel door cover and the trunk as well as the doors. Your's isn't working and sounds like the pump in the trunk is not on line. Iain is right about cleaning and re-greasing the window mechanisms, but that is a rather big job. What you can try to alleviate the slow window movement by using silicone on the window "sweepers" and gaskets to reduce the resistance. Worked for me. There is not much choice in cup holders for a '91 SEC. The space between the seats is taken up by your roll-top compartment, so that is not an option.Performance Products (http://www.performanceproducts4benz.com) have cup holders that attach to the doors, underneath the door release, and they are color-coded for most interiors. Haven't tried them myself so somebody may want to chip in with their experience with these. Congratulations on you purchase. Cheers,Axel -----Original Message-----From:

How did you deduce that there is no central locking system? It is my impression that this was standard, not an option. When I got my 86-560, the pump did not work at all, so the impression could have been the same as yours. Remove the cover for the spare tire in the trunk and observe of there is a rubber, rather squat, banana shaped unit on the right side of the spare tire. Inside that is the vacuum pump. Also, open the fuel cover door and see if there is a small hole, 1/4", in the outer edge. This is where the lock pin goes in. When I cleaned my unit and plugged it back in, it stared immediately and scared the crap out of me.
Search the archives for drink holders, there's a bunch of posts for them.
The windows need to be taken apart and the tracks cleaned and replace any broken parts, this is pretty standard on 15-20 year old w126's. Again, the archives will give lots of tips on this.
                                                                                                Iain (Ian) with a "I"

I've just recently acquired my first 560! The Web site was a great benefit as I looked for the "right" 560 - My sincere Thanks. At 75K on the ticker I'm really excited about my new Merc. I was shocked however, to learn that my vehicle was apparently built w/o a power locking system...

I dought it, but is it is feasible to consider adding power locks at this point? Also, the windows work but exhibit very slow travel. Any trick to speed them up/down? And finally, other than the center console, any bright ideas for drink holders? My bride & I enjoy our Starbuck roadies?

w/Thanks & Regards,
