Yes, John it's a great ride and the info to be gleaned from this group is priceless. Mine has 17" chrome Lorinsers, lowered 1 1/2", Euro headlamps and clear corner lights. It is not surprising to me that there are more than one besides myself that also have a Corvette in our stable (small block '63 coupe in my case). The Vette is a blast for short to medium trips but the SEC is the ride of choice for longer cruises.

Ray,

Thanks for helping out with the nice info. I had only driven this car maybe 4 times at the most. It surprised me when I bought it with how nice it was. I did not expect a 17 year old car to be so tight. It had the stock wheels and I knew if I was keeping it that they had to go. I decided to just cover the car and stash it in storage for the last 7 months. Now, after seeing how much fun you guys are having, I have decided to bring it out this year and make it over a little with springs and shocks, wheels and tires, and maybe an exhaust system! This is one of the coolest sites around and it is a real pleasure to be able to talk with such knowledgeable people.

John,
You might be surprised at the information you can get from your local MB dealer's service manager. I was. I took my just purchased 560 SEC to the local dealer (Hoehn MB in Carlsbad, CA) and explained that I had just bought it and could he give me any information about it. He took the VIN and in a few minutes came back with a print out of a VMI (Vehicle Master Inquiry). It included a list of options and the codes for paint and upholstery as well as the production and delivery dates. The warranty history showed that my black beauty had been originally delivered to a dealer in New York where it had several paint imperfections repaired before delivery. Four years later it had the EZL and automatic transmission replaced at 54,000 miles under warranty.
From a Ca rFax report I learned that it moved across the river to New Jersey before it made the trip to California and was registered first in Carpinteria then Palmdale.

Hope you have similar results in finding out about your SEC.
