Dan,
That is a very sensible and simple idea. I like it and good thinking. I will double check the normal specified current drain and make up a fuse slightly higher. I think under the circumstances a 500ma to 1amp fuse should do the trick.

You could, overnight, replace one fuse each night with a piece of very fine wire. One morning that fine wire will be melted. Might have to sacrifice a fuse just to turn it into a holder for the fine wire.
