I spend one Christmas and New Year in Adelaide as a merchant Marine Officer and as I remember it was one of the best I ever had experience.
Close by the harbor was an hospital and we had many nurses on our ship having a party.

  Reading your emails about snow is making me so jealous. It is currently 35deg Celsius here in Victoria Australia and very uncomfortable. Every Christmas we sweat our brains out, it would be wonderful to have a nice roast instead of cold ham and beetroot salads. The plus side is you get to cruise around with the sunroof open and all windows down. 
  Here is a photo of my son doing the nice not naughty thing for Santa and I get a clean car out of it.
