[W126 Coupe] Question

I have a 1989 560 Coupe.  The car has about 110,000 miles on it.  We have 
had the general maintenance done on a very regular basis; but not the 
timing chain, etc.

My question is-  the car "whines"  -  not consistently-  but certainly if 
you drive 50 miles or so-  it whines,  then goes on about its business- 
Usually on the road-  whines in hot weather, cold weather, rainy weather- 
doesn't lose speed.  short 30 second "whine".

Any ideas, suggestions for solutions.
