I believe everybody would need some more information to understand your problem.
 
Your car is an '88 560SEC.  Is it RHD specifically as imported for the Australian market, or is is a European or Asian?
 
In the N. American model, the power seats function without the ignition on, but only while the door is open.  They will not operate when the door is closed without the ignition on.  The power windows do not function without the ignition on.
 
In the European model, the power windows do function without the ignition on.
 
So you must first know what "normal" wiring is for your car.  Other questions... does anything else not work with the ignition on, such as wipers, sunroof, turn signals and heater fan? ( None of these things should operate without the ignition on.)  Of course, the lights and hazard lights should operate without the ignition.
