James;
The Euro versions not only have different part numbers.... they have different parts. And they are not interchangeable. For example, the idle control module is a different controller than in the N. American models. The differences in the Euro engines include different emission control systems (no cats) higher compression (9.2 vs 8.3) more hp (231hp), minimum 92 octane fuel vs 87, and different spark plug spec (D7 vs D9). Plus many of the European models do not have air condition.
If you need an ignition controller/module check the standard spec in models sold in your country to see if yours is different. Check the part number specified for your VIN. Give your M-B dealer your VIN and they will tell you the correct part number plus estimate the second mortgage on your house necessary to purchase it. (Leetle joking.)
Armed with the correct part number (which hopefully matches the one you are replacing), get a quote from someone like Rusty's. He is likely less expensive. And maybe he'll take Australian dollars at par. (another leeetle joking, da?)
