When the car has been stored for a period of time some people recommend removing the coil wire and turn the starter a few cranks to get oil onto the dry parts. Then put the coil wire back in place and start engine. The idea is that if the engine starts immediately as it should do that RPM's with dry parts cause considerable wear. Whereas coil wire removal is not necessary when driven daily since some oil from previous day remains on parts. Frequent oil changes are important for Mercedes engines but even more so with infrequently driven cars due to acid numbers buildup from only periodic start ups and short running times. It is best to run these cars often and for along enough period of time to get hot for a while. The catalytic converter become reactive, fires-off, to neutralize the sulfur and such which will also keep exaust system in good shape. Ever noticed how many SL's which seem to be the most garage not driven cars. They advertise a car with ultra low miles but already
has a new stainless exaust. Caused by starting to idle only once a month and as exaust cools it pulls water from the atmosphere where resides unburned sulfur as in sulfuric acid. Another big time item that suffers from storage is the fuel distributor. I have been long winded as a confession of quilt. I too need to drive my car more often. Who am I saving it for!
