Big Brake kits? (was RE: [W126 Coupe] FYI more horsepower)

I have a Highly Modified 6.OL and found that the original brakes fitted with BENDIX Metal Kings do the job quite nicely. We tested several pads over a quarter mile at Sandown( a local raceway) and they stopped every time on time. They do squeak a bit until they warm up but that's why you see every race car touching the brakes on warm up.I don't know what the top speed was they pulled up at but the Speedo was of the clock several times and they stopped without fading. The only drawback is if you were to do this everyday the discs wear as much as the pads.

Get the Benz anti-squeal paste (believe it or not, my dealer doesn't stock it, they stock some other brand, so I got it from Rusty). Last time I did pads (also metal-masters) I used the stuff the dealer uses, and just lived with the rear pads squealing. This time I used the MB paste (and shims of course, but I used those last time too) and have 0 squeals. BTW, I would definitely put the rear ones in. The first time I went to metal masters, I drove around with just the fronts for a few days, it must have thrown the bias off or something because the braking got MUCH better once I swapped out the rear ones.

Richard,
I don't have the big engine running yet but I did take my SEC out on Laguna Seca race track a couple of years ago. It has slotted front rotors with Metal Master semi-metallic pads, and stock rear brakes. The brakes lasted about four hard laps before they faded away to nothingness, but I found out it was my old brake fluid that did it, not a problem with anything mechanical.
As part of the LS6 upgrades, I'm putting in a set of stainless braided brake lines and the best brake fluid I can get. I don't believe I'll need anything else. I will have the FrankenBenz out on a track eventually and that will be my test of the brakes, but for "spirited" street driving, I'm not expecting to need any further upgrades. I have a set of semi-metallic rear brake pads but won't put them in for now (too noisy).
Hope this helps,
Mike R.

I though Satish was running a Brembo kit that was available years ago? I guess not. I don't doubt (anymore, I once did though) that the stock brakes can lock up a set of 245 wide tires, but the question is how many times can they take threshold braking before they fade? I found with the stock pads, given only around 10 seconds to cool in between slow downs, I would feel fade after the 2nd heavy slow down, and with the metal masters it's after the 5th or 6th. I wonder if maybe Satish has found some better pads than metal masters?

Richard,
Have you contacted Daryl about brakes? If I remember correctly, Barry Corno recently posted an email saying he had gotten brakes from him/his company and was very, very happy with the setup. Might be worth investigating, although in my opinion, you might be wasting your money. How much hp do you really think you'll get? I doubt it will be more than Satish has in his V12 with over 400hp, and he hasn't had to change to big brakes.

Jonathan - Hope to be? As far as I'm concerned that's a will be, I'll be calling you in a few weeks to finalize some details (like exhaust pipe set up and dates) so that I can get my airline tickets a little early so I'm not TOTALLY blowing my money.
All - Speaking of more power, more power needs more brakes. I'm going to be putting on BBS 17" RGR's (I'm iffy on the look, but I can't find any good looking 17's and these at least are very light), and I have a feeling these little brakes will look a little funny, plus after 200 miles on the Blue Ridge Parkway today, I found that even with my metal master pads, these brakes are no stranger to fade (to be fair Blue Ridge Parkway is hard on brakes, after 200 miles there my wheels look like they normally would if I hadn't washed them for 3 weeks). Are there any big brake kits out there? If not, is anybody interested (IIRC Stoptech needs 15 orders to make a custom kit and it costs ~$3000/per)? Or at least are there any pads that are more fade resistant than metal masters (which are themselves about 2.5x more fade resistant than the stock pads)?
Thanks,
Richard

I'll just say the last metric engine I encountered w/ the Euro 10-1 pistons along w/ intake mods & full custom exhaust made 235hp @ the rear wheels. My white coupe w/ 9-1's MB tri Y's and a s... exhaust after that made 227. My AMG w/ 10-1's, cams, full tri Y w/ Cat and AMG muffler made 250 and 297 @ the wheels....and that was with 200K on the clock.
I hope to be putting an engine together for Richard this fall.
Jonathan
