[W126 Coupe] clock problem

Robert, I can certainly look into that. I may have forgotten to mention that the rebuilt clock I got last year stopped working about a month ago, and I sent that back to the Benz Store and just got another one, which isn't working either when plugged in. Since I have to assume they checked everything out before sending it to me as working, that's why I'm thinking its the power from my car to the clock, and not the clock itself. Although I wonder why a wire would suddenly stop supplying power like that unless it was damaged but that seems odd being behind the cluster and not touched.Markus Meyer484-919-9762 (cell)http://www.meyerprobateproperties.com/--- On Fri 08/18, Robert Karl Stonjek < rstonjek at bigpond.net.au > wrote:From: Robert Karl Stonjek [mailto: rstonjek at bigpond.net.au]To: mbcoupes at mbcoupes.comDate: Fri, 18 Aug 2006 16:27:30 +1000Subject: Re: [W126 Coupe] clock problem
Markus,When I got my 560 the clock worked only intermittently. It turned out to be the plastic adjustment mechanism - it didn't retract properly after adjusting the clock, which I did every time I had inspected the mechanism and reassembled the cluster!! The clock actually worked fine, but when it had to drive the plastic adjustment mechanism as well it stopped. And then a bit of extra vibration might make the adjuster retract and off the clock would go again, until I noticed that it was going and adjusted it. Repair is embarrassingly simple - just remove the plastic bits and give them a clean, then reassemble with a drop of or two of lubricant - anything that would be good enough for any other lady - KY or baby oil. Check the mechanism and away she goes. My has been running flawlessly since I did the repair 9 months ago!! Robert
Hi gang,I'm hoping someone can give some suggestions on what to do with a clock problem I'm having. Last year it was acting up, so on Dick's suggestion, I sent it to the Benz store in Georgia (after unsuccessfully trying to put in new capacitors myself) and got a rebuilt one. Worked fine until last month when it suddenly just stopped working. Fuse #2 which says clock also works other items that are working, so I'm assuming its not as simple as that. Right now, I have the cluster pulled out enough so that I could take the power wire off the old clock and attached just that to the new clock, and its not moving. So, I'm assuming that power wire is bad? 1) How can I check if the wire is "live" or has power?2) How can I check the clock by itself. I know hook it up to a 12V battery, but how - where do the red and black wires go to from the battery to the clock?Other ideas on what to check for? Anything obvious I'm just missing? Everything else in the cluster, including the tach,
work just fine.Thanks,MarkusMarkus Meyer484-919-9762 (cell)http://www.meyerprobateproperties.com/
