With respect to ignition timing and gas mileage, as the timing chain
stretches with wear,  the engine should be able to accommodate a little more
spark advance as a compensation.

I thought the 420 is also a 116...116.965 or something like that, no? Either
way, yeah pre-86 don't have EZL (I know that, it's not from deciphering the
service manual). 380 runs 0 degrees at idle too, so there should be room for
a good amount of advancement, especially with 93 octane since the car only
calls for 87.

That is how I understand the instructions on the maintenance CD. The pre-86
stuff seems to be under the 116 model, not 117.
