I have experimented with various values. I usually buy gas marked "93 
octane" by whatever method the US now requires.

Values of resistor too high seemed to "hold back" the engine at high 
RPM, exactly like a small block Chevy with too much advance. Small 
values make the car distinctly sluggish. I think I have 2000 or 2200 
ohms in there now, although I may have cut back to 1200 ohms to inhibit 
the top-end "straining" feeling.

If you are pushing the limit you will want to try different values at 
different times of the year as the pump blends are adapted to the 
weather (or were you based in Hawaii<G>?).
