[W126 Coupe] It goes

Friends,
I made a little film of my 560SEC (220KW version) accelerating in first and second gear, then used Adobe Premiere to analyse the films (three passes) to get the exact timings.

I made four 'passes' in total, filming each one. Only in one did I continue on in third gear, to 170kph. One of the films was not useable, but with the other three I could use Adobe Premiere to get exact timings (it reads frame by frame and gives temporal readings). Apart from 40kph, for which I didn't get an absolutely clear frame to get timings (couldn't tell exactly where the needle was). Here are the averages with error for the three useable vids:-

40kph 1.24~2.05 ??
60kph 3.07±.05
80kph 4.18±.05
100kph 6.16±.05 (62.5mph)
120kph 9.08±.05
140kph 11.15 (One Reading Only)
160kph 14.30 (One Reading Only) (100mph)
170kph approx. 16s

Change from first to second (approx.)
75kph 4.0s
Change from second to third (approx.)
118kph 9.0s

If anyone wants a look at the film, I've compressed the one where I take it up to 170kph (1 meg file). Drop me a line and I'll send it. I thought it was just a touch to big to attach to this message.

The car is a 1987 560SEC (220kw version). I've been having trouble with the fuel injection computer, so it isn't connected to the EHA at present. The fuel distributor, EZL and CIS-E are all from the Australian version of the 560 (someone must have changed them on this imported car after it arrived in Oz) which was a 180kw CAT version.

In all probability I will get much better fuel economy with the correct parts but the sub 100kph performance will not change much. Even so, I needed to have a reference with which to compare future work - subjective assessments can waver with mood and are not especially reliable where very small improvements are to be assessed. Well, that is true in my case :)

Does anyone have definitive data on the 180kw version (240hp).

Robert
