[W126 Coupe] How to gain 112 bhp

Saw an interesting idea on the /www.benzworld.org 126 forum. The guy had
taken the air filter element out of his 500SEC intake (single snorkel) and
run the MB intake tube over to the area behind the passenger side headlight.
He'd then mounted a K&N air filter through the panel behind the headlight so
the filter was underneath, behind the fog light, and the intake tube was
connected up in the engine compartment. Cold air, low restriction intake,
but don't ford any streams.
Later,

Wouldn't that allow airflow coming through the radiator to flow up over the
top of the motor and out the scoop?
To be effective, rear-facing scoops are connected only to the air intake,
not the engine compartment ambient. The idea is to get COLD air in to the
intake. (At least in racing weather<G>!)
I wasn't thinking of modifying the hood itself.
Nor was I -- but there is a space between the two firewalls that I think is
exposed to outside air but not engine compartment heat. There may be a way
to duct that into the air filter.
Actually, turning only 6000 RPM, or engines don't need as much air as
Penske's race cars did.
