Funny one! I'll take the wife and kids performance enhancement first,
although over the long term, putting in an AMG or RennTech engine may be
cheaper.

The later model 560s had 10:1 compression ratio compared to the pre (I
think) 88 model. The high power version had 10:1 ratio through the entire
production run. The high power version has 300HP, but most of that comes
from the much freer flowing exhaust system - no cat, fewer mufflers, dual
manifolds for each cylinder bank.

I note that from a standing start, a full throttle start will drop the
transmission into first gear (if the transmission switch is set to S instead
of E) and the wide rear tyres I have on my car do spin (265/35 18" low
profile rear tyres) but no squealing or smoke.

If your car has dual cats then with the higher compression it is more likely
to be the 200kw version (273HP). One thing that makes any car go faster is
less weight, so don't rule out divorcing the wife and/or selling the kids to
the gypsies :)

Kind Regards

> Welcome to the site. Drive the car first. I think you will find plenty of
power especially at highway speeds. I believe what is more important than HP
is torque. That is what makes cars drivable. The car starts off from a
standstill in second gear but you can find out here about a kit to make it
start in first. The rearend is geared for the road and not red light races
so you could change the rearend for more zip around town. Chips don't work
with this car's fuel injection set up. Some other minor mods will get you
just a few HP. For $3000 + you can supercharge it and gain 150 HP but now we
are back to money. The rear end change is $2000. So the first gear start kit
at $300 or much less might be all you want to consider for now. If you want
a real tire smoker get a Mustang. If you see that Mustang on the interstate
the race is in you favor. Enjoy your ride. Jim Alex

someone has information on. I just purchased a 1989 560SEC on Ebay, though
I have not yet received it. I've been reading the specs on this car and
notice the horsepower is 238. I love a lot of power, especially torque and
was wondering if there are any aftermarket performance enhancement products
that I could add to boost the power? I read that the 0-60 is 7.0. Is this
accurate? I live in California, so I know they are pretty strict about
emissions. I don't want to spend a fortune....probably under $1,000. I
also don't want to alter the appearance of the car, just the performance.
I'm curious if there is anything for this model? A chip or some other
recommended performance modification? By the way, I'm not very mechanically
saavy, so please describe for the average joe. Thanks so much!
